Delicatessen) is the granddaddy of artisan pizza in Melbourne and, for our money, this is some of the best. t’s thin, it’s crispy – it’s the way pizza should be. Then there’s the mozzarella bar. We recommend the sample tasting of three different varieties, including the smoked fior di latte – the ashy flavour will blow you away.
By day, the tiny space operates as a cafe with a simple menu of piadinas and paninos, reasonably priced pizzas and a selection of pastas. The pizza dough is fine, and puffed by a roaring pizza oven, of course, if you don’t feel like eating pizza, +39 also does a phenomenal array of antipasti, as well as pastas, salads, risottos and desserts.
Functions, events and catering. Situated on the former Termini site, Pizza e Birra is right in the heart of Fitzroy Street and provides an ambient, cosy setting. Served piping hot from the wood-fired oven, with the cheese still sizzling away, these thin, crispy based pizzas are top-notch. There are plenty of other options, too, to choose from on the menu; from entrees such as baked eggplant with buffalo mozzarella and tomato sugo, to the signature pappardelle with braised duck and tomato ragout.

Aside from previously owning Little Bourke’s +39, the A25 Pizzeria owner also owns Non Solo Pasta (NSP) in the Docklands and his brother, Tony, is the owner of the [D.O.C.] pizza empire. There is a section on the menu called Pizza Pazze, or crazy pizza. The LSD pizza has cream of dates, radicchio, liquorice dust and Berkshire sausage on it among other things. It sounds random, but it works.
Marco Di Pietrantonio is passionate about pizza. With more than 15 years’ experience, and a family history of Italian dining under his belt, it’s no surprise that Queen Margherita is a popular spot on Hampton Street. The aroma of fresh oregano and cheesy pizza dough fills the air in the large downstairs dining area. The menu offers stone baked pizzas, such as Napolitano and Margherita alongside more adventurous combinations. Pair with BYO wine – there’s no charge for corkage, incredibly – and you have a tidy little dinner.
This pizza joint in Richmond could well have been shipped direct from Italy. St Domenico serves authentic Neapolitan pizza that’s a real contender for the best slice in the neighbourhood. The Stagioni flour for the hand-stretched dough, along with the specialty cheeses and cured meats (including the hard-to-get San Daniele prosciutto) are all imported from Italy. Alongside the classics, there are gluten-free bases and vegetarian options. There was no space for a wood-fired oven, but Tarquinio installed an Italian stone oven instead, which reaches similar scorching temperatures.
Picture this: you’re home on a Saturday night having a spontaneous party with friends. It’s still early, but everyone’s hungry and you’re running out of drinks. Things are getting desperate. DUST is a new concept of bakery, pizzeria and mill located in Tramsheds Harold Park. It will re-position bread at the rightful heart of our tables, meals, families and lives, and re-define the perception of flour. DUST produces delightful, healthy bread made from grain sourced directly from Australian farmers. Rather than starting with pre-milled flour from unknown origins, owner Cesare Salemi and his team are involved right from grain selection and sourcing of whole grains from local farms, all the way through to the milling of the flour. You eat at DUST for breakfast, lunch and dinner. With every menu item having bread at its core, the bakery will serve you a selection of fresh made Schiacciata , slow fermented wood fired pizzas, plus cakes, pastries, and of course a unique selection of woodfired breads.

Vacanza has two locations in Sydney NSW, the first of the classic southern Italian-style pizzerias opened in Bronte in 2010, the second in Surrey Hills just two years later. The Amalfi deck ovens in both kitchens are ideal for keeping up with demand and delivering quality. If you’re after authentic Italian taste then you need to ensure you are using authentic Italian catering equipment!
Both ovens are manufactured in Italy by Moretti Forni and imported by Euroquip.
